I am a broadcaster, journalist and producer with many years of experience in radio, television and cross-media content production.

Whilst I have worked and lived in the UK for most of my life, I've been based in Switzerland since October 2007, as a producer and presenter at the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation (SRG SSR idée suisse).

Journalist

I have a Post-graduate diploma in Broadcast Journalism from the London College of Communication, which I received in 2001.

Since then I have worked as a newsreader and broadcast journalist at numerous Independent and BBC station in the UK, including BBC Radio 5Live, Sky News Radio, Talksport radio & TV.

Since October 2007 I have worked as a producer, journalist and presenter at World Radio Switzerland, the national radio station, in English, of the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation. I have presented and produced The Wrap since the Spring of 2008.

Writer

I have written for film, television, radio and theatre.

Whilst working as a cross-platform producer for Compression, I co-wrote with Shaun Pye a series of short comic pieces (which I also presented) for BBC Choice called Carl Weather's Football Landmarks. Shortly after we were commissioned to write an animation series called Thommo's Trophies (which I also voiced).

Following on from this work I was taken on as a script consultant for the BBC Choice football entertainment show 45 Minutes, exec. produced by Andy Harris.

At around this time I was part of the writing team that contributed sketch material to the BBC2 animation series Monkey Dus t, produced by Harry Thompson.

I wrote, produced and directed two radio dramas (Cab and Property for art radio station Resonance FM, just before I was taken on at BBC Radio Drama, where I was Producer for Special Projects.

My first script was "Next Stop Budokan", a radio drama which was shortlisted for the BBC's New Playwrights' Competition in 1995. The same year I wrote the film script "Voyeur" for British director Rupert Wyatt. It was subsequently optioned by a French Production Company. Short films I have written and produced include Let's Talk, which was shown at several film festivals.

During my time at the BBC I wrote and directed Time & Date, a short drama which was staged at the Hampstead Theatre's Michael Frayn Space.

Radio & Television Presenter

RADIO:
I am currently the presenter and producer of the afternoon show at the national English-language radio station of the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation. I have been at the station since it began in October 2007.

This is a weekday, live programme containing Swiss news, current affairs, politics, culture and music.

BBC: Presenter and writer of a series of short comic TV pieces called Carl Weather's Football Landmarks. Broadcast on BBC Choice in 2001 as part of the football enterntainment 45 Minutes.

Radio Drama & Documentary Director/Producer

From 2004 to 2007 I was Producer for Special Projects at BBC Radio Drama.

During this time I created several innovative cross-platform projects and directed a number of radio dramas broadcast on BBC Radio 4 and 3. They include:

With funding from the European Broadcasting Union I created The Borders project, a co-production between 6 public radio broadcasters.

An Artist Crawls, my collaboration with performance artist Mark McGowan was broadcast on BBC Radio 3 and Chicago Public Radio.

cross-platform & multi-media producer

In 2000 I joined the team of Compression, a multimedia start-up, as cross-platform producer. I developed a number of online projects for the football Website 365.

The City Speaks was a cross-platform project consisting of 2 BBC radio dramas, a feature film and 6 collaborations between audio drama directors, script-writers and artist film-makers.

This collaboration between BBC radio drama and Film London was a highly innovative and ambitious multi-platform project and an experiment in the emerging world of visual radio, currently being pioneered at the BBC.

The film premiered at bfi Southbank (formerly the National Film Theatre) on Monday the 11th of March 2008. It has since been shown at various film festivals. The City Speaks was broadcast on BBC Radio 4 and on digital TV (under the red button on cable, satellite and freeview) on the 19th and 20th of March 2008. The 6 separate films were available on the BBC Film Network Website during March 2008.

The Audiotheque is a forum for new radio producing talent, created during 2006 after I came across Arteradio in France and Deutschlandradio Kultur in Germany.

I contacted a number of UK Universities and met Rob Newman at Leicester De Montfort University where I gave a talk to students. We developed the idea of a partnership and, since I left the BBC, that partnership is still growing.

Film Director

In the mid-90s I started writing and directing short films for various festivals including Let's Talk.

Whilst working as a cross-platform producer for Compression I produced and directed the documentary New York Soccer Stories, broadcast on BBC Choice.

Between 2004 and 2007 I was Special Projects producer at BBC Radio Drama where one of my responibilities was setting up and chairing debates for various internal departmental events. For the 2007 Audio & Music Festival I produced and directed a short film about Arteradio, the innovative audio creation Website run by the French/German Arte media organisation.
